The I&M Foundation is supporting the project, which is anticipated to be finished by April 2025 and will span a 14.2-kilometer radius.
Ngong Road Forest, which is 1,224.4 hectares in size and consists of 337.68 hectares of plantation forest and 886.72 hectares of natural forest,
was named a Central Government Forest Reserve in 1964 after being gazetted in 1932 by Proclamation No. 44.
Miotoni, Lenana, Karen, Sanctuary, and Bomas Blocks are the five administrative units into which it is divided, according to KFS.
The largest of these, the Sanctuary Block, is 695.3 hectares in size and is made up of grasslands, bushes, and sporadic eucalyptus plantations.
KFS will provide a walkway around the perimeter that is six meters wide in order to guarantee efficient fence upkeep.
The forest's current Participatory Forest Management Plan, which was created in partnership with the Community Forest Association (CFA),
is in line with this strategy. Fencing is listed in the plan as a crucial intervention to support conservation initiatives and safeguard delicate ecosystems.
KFS said that the I&M Foundation has agreed to build rangers' homes, a rangers' station, and restrooms in addition to financing the fence project. To read more, scroll.
In order to further support conservation efforts, the Foundation will additionally restore 40 hectares inside the Sanctuary Block.
