Amid escalating tensions, the US reiterates its support for nonviolent protests in Pakistan

Washington, USA Nov. 27 During a media conference on Monday, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller reaffirmed that the US supported Pakistani individuals' right to peaceful protest.

Miller underlined the US's support for peaceful assembly, association, and freedom of speech both in Pakistan and across the world.

"We urge demonstrators to abstain from violence and hold peaceful demonstrations.

At the same time, we call on Pakistani authorities to preserve peace and order while respecting fundamental freedoms, human rights, and Pakistani laws and the constitution," he said.

The comments coincide with rising tensions in Islamabad, where demonstrations have been more intense after PTI founder Imran Khan was arrested.

PTI supporters demanded Khan's release as they marched into the capital, defying official restrictions.

Two police officers, including Constable Muhammad Mubashir Bilal, were martyred as a result of the disturbance after allegedly being attacked by protesters.

Miller urged both demonstrators and police to exercise patience and restated the US stance on nonviolent demonstrations.

"Ensuring public safety and order while protecting human rights is crucial," he continued.
