Gachagua suggests guiding Mount Kenya away from Ruto, who holds a Bible
In the run-up to Kenya's general election in 2027, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has mentioned forming a new political coalition.
Gachagua said in a speech in Murang'a on Sunday that a formal declaration is anticipated in January. He revealed continuing discussions with religious leaders and political allies who share his views.
"I am negotiating with politicians and religious leaders. I'll let you know what we decided upon in January," Gachagua said.
"We will never again find ourselves in this predicament."
Gachagua charged that in the run-up to the general election in 2022, his former employer had deceived and betrayed the area.
The comments coincide with growing demands from Gachagua-aligned MPs to create a political vehicle for the 2027 elections.
Following an earlier resolution by the National Assembly, the Senate affirmed Gachagua's expulsion on October 17, making him Kenya's first impeached Deputy President.
The former DP has been outspoken in his criticism of the administration since his removal, charging it with harassment and intimidation.
Gachagua had before expressed alarm over suspected state agent surveillance, saying that unmarked vehicles had been following him and keeping tabs on his whereabouts.

Gachagua described in a string of tweets an event in which a strange saloon sedan stopped outside his Nairobi home and reportedly followed him about.
He voiced concern for his safety and likened the purported strategies to the repressive practices of Kenya's previous authoritarian governments.
