November 27, Nairobi, Kenya—In observance of Thanksgiving Day, a day to express gratitude for the harvests and blessings of the previous year, 

the US Embassy in Nairobi has declared that it would close on Thursday.

One of the most beloved holidays in the US is Thanksgiving Day. Every year, Americans commemorate it with feasts, family get-togethers, and acts of thankfulness.

Every year on the fourth Thursday in November, the holiday is observed.

In observance of #ThanksgivingDay, the Embassy will be closed on Thursday, November 28, 2024. We appreciate our pals from Kenya. "#HappyThanksgiving," the message said.

The origins, importance, and meaning of Thanksgiving are firmly anchored in American custom, which has changed over time.

Over time, its historical and cultural significance has deepened, particularly as a time for family gatherings.

The origin of the day may be traced back to the harvest feast that the Pilgrims enjoyed in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621. Farmers used to use it as an opportunity to praise God for a bountiful fall crop.

In an effort to guarantee uniformity in the commemoration of the event, President Franklin D. Roosevelt formalised it in 1940.
